What is the hieroglyphics language.? The ancient Egyptians considered this type of writing as sacred and religious writings and most were placed and carved on tombs or wall of temples. The Egyptian writings were considered the "words of the Gods". The ibis-headed god Thoth was considered to be the patron deity of writing and scribes. Thoth is always shown as Ibis headed man with a note and a pen writing on it. Egyptian hieroglyphics are probably the most well known Ancient example of this writing technique, and were used for several thousand years before the common era before being supplanted by other writing systems and languages. The meaning of hieroglyphics was lost until 1799, when the Rosetta Stone was discovered by Napoleon's army. The Rosetta Stone had the same decree in three languages: Ancient Greek, Coptic, and hieroglyphics. Numerous translators worked on the Rosetta Stone, and Jean-Francois Champollion finally succeeded in translating it in the mid 1800s, building on the work of others. The translation of the Rosetta Stone allowed archaeologists to learn much more about Ancient Egyptian culture, and captivated the Western world, as hieroglyphics are difficult to grasp for people who are accustomed to alphabets.
